Abs and Aging (Especially in Menopause)

Belly fat is NORMAL.

There’s no secret ab move you’re missing and visible abs aren’t the benchmark of health.

In fact, most will never have a flat stomach and that’s OKAY (even if it doesn’t ‘feel’ okay).

Abdominal fat is largely driven by nutrition, genetics & body structure — not by how hard you train your core.

So be kind to yourself.

Train for function & celebrate all that you can do instead of beating yourself up for how you look.

This is something I’m learning to accept.

As I age, I find that my body shape is changing. I can feel frustrated and fight against this as much as I want. And even though I’m doing all ‘the things’ (related to nutrition, stress management, sleep etc), there will likely only be marginal changes.

My message is NOT to go sit on the couch with your hands in the air.

There ARE things you can do to improve your health, but this doesn’t always equate to the flattest most toned tummy. Collagen in your skin decreases (yes on your belly too) so skin sags with age.

It’s FINE (even though it may not feel fine).

The sooner we can accept these subtle changes, the sooner we can get on with enjoying all the OTHER wonderful aspects of aging becauseI’m reminded daily that aging is a gift not afforded to all.

If you need some support being the finest version of you at whatever age you are, I’m here for you. Let’s talk.
