Since when is ‘mediocre’ enough?
Mediocre is enough when today’s ‘mediocre’ is better than yesterday’s.
Let me explain.
I’m all about sustainable habit change and making the least amount of effort for the biggest return.
When you can change small things over time, it can create a big impact long term.
A mediocre day for my client, I’ll call Jane, used to be that she’d have a carb binge and eat an entire sleeve of cookies.
Now, after she’s practiced food logging and healthier eating, a mediocre day for Jane will be eating two cookies.
She has improved her ‘mediocre’.
Another client, Samantha, was a hard ‘no’ to any kind of exercise due to time constraints so we worked on increasing her steps. A mediocre day for her back then was 2000 steps.
Now, with more intention, the introduction of movement snacks, time and practice, a mediocre day for her is two movement snacks as well as 5000 steps.
A mediocre day in the gym for Alana had her always reaching for the 10lb weights.
Now, with effort and intention to gain strength, she reaches for the 15lb weights.
So instead of raising the ceiling, that is, always achieving your best, raise the floor, that is, aim to improve things on your worst days.
Because it’d be great to think you’ll always have your ‘best’ day, but more often than not, you don’t.
By making improvements on even your worst day, well, that’s how progress is made – at all things.
If you need help finding ways to ‘raise the floor’ to improve your ‘mediocre’, let’s talk about the tiny changes you can make to reap big health rewards.
