🚗💦 Trying to avoid bathroom stops by avoiding water? That’s not the life hack you think it is.
Here’s what’s happening:
When you don’t drink enough water, your urine becomes more concentrated.
That concentrated urine contains higher levels of waste products that can irritate the lining of your bladder, increasing the feeling of urgency and making you feel like you need to pee…even when your bladder isn’t that full.
So the strategy of “I’ll just stop drinking” can actually backfire.
💧 Instead: • Stay consistently hydrated throughout the day. • Sip water regularly rather than chugging a litre right before you leave. • If you’re heading out on a long drive, go to the bathroom before you hit the road—but don’t intentionally dehydrate yourself.
Your bladder prefers diluted urine, not bladder hot sauce. 🌶️😂
Note: If you’re experiencing frequent urgency, burning, leaking, blood in your urine, or you’re getting up multiple times every night to pee, it’s worth speaking with your healthcare provider. Those symptoms can have causes beyond hydration.
Pro tip: If you’re over 45, you may consider vaginal estrogen which can help with bladder urgency – talk to your doctor about this too.
