The little things matter more than most people realize.
- Balancing while putting on your shoes.
- Taking the stairs.
- Carrying your own groceries.
- Reaching for high places…
- Standing up without using your hands.
These aren’t random habits — they’re daily opportunities to maintain:
✔ strength
✔ balance
✔ mobility
✔ independence
Aging well isn’t about crushing yourself in the gym, although please DO hit the gym!
To be honest, my younger self never considered the movements in the video as actual ‘skills’ that I should consider maintaining. I mean, we all just did these things fairly effortlessly. I guess the ‘gift of age’ has taught me differently. I work with a number of people that have lost some of these skills, so this is a cautionary tale for us all.
It’s about keeping the physical ability to do everyday life confidently for as long as possible.
Movement is use-it-or-lose-it.
The more capable you stay in the small things, the more freedom you keep in the big things.
Start where you are.
Practice strength in everyday life.
