You’re asking the wrong question.
Spot reducing is a myth.
Ab exercises will strengthen your core, reduce back pain, improve performance in sport and even protect you from injury.
But will exercise flatten your tummy or give you visible abs?
Unlikely.
In order to see your abs, you need to rid yourself of subcutaneous fat, which is no easy feat.
Remember that genetically, women are MEANT to have a certain amount of belly fat in order to propagate the species.
And with age and as estrogen declines, women tend to add fat to the abdomen versus the chest and hips further challenging the likelihood of obtaining and maintaining washboard abs.
Your best defense to reduce belly fat is with nutrition. Maintaining a balanced diet of higher protein and high fiber, lower processed foods and alcohol is a boring but effective way to flatten your tummy.
Maintaining consistency with these boring habits will result in a healthier body composition.
Please keep in mind that, depending on your genetics, you may be someone who simply holds more fat in the abdominal area. The sooner you love and accept your genetic blueprint, the sooner you’ll feel less frustration and more appreciation for all the wonderful things your body can do.
Having said this, there’s no harm in striving to be the healthiest version of you, as long as you don’t beat yourself up in the process.
Of course, I’d love to be part of the journey.
I’m happy to discuss the easiest habits that will bring about the biggest changes here.
