You may HATE getting on the scale. I get it.
But let me tell you about Alex and her experience with the scale and it may change your mind about using it or what I call the ‘tight jean’ method of accountability.
Alex is a long time coaching client with whom I check in with twice a week. She actively attends weekly group nutrition meetings coming with great questions. She accepts and applies advice regularly and she’s developed really healthy lifestyle habits. Alex coaches with me to improve her habits and to be proactive with menopause.
Now back to the dreaded scale…
I don’t ‘require’ my clients to weigh in with any regularity, especially for my clients where weight loss isn’t their goal. However, I do encourage it.
So Alex randomly weighed herself after months of not doing so, and despite her healthy habits, she noticed that she gained 3-4 lbs.
Kudos to her because she looked back over the times she stopped weighing herself and noticed that she was taking less steps during that time.
She took FULL RESPONSIBILITY.
She didn’t blame her age, metabolism, menopause. ‘seed oils’ or any number of other excuses social influencers might point to. She was simply eating the same (and I can attest to healthy choices), but moving less.
So, she became more conscious of movement, she weighed in a bit more regularly and in short order, she got on top of things before they got out of hand.
If she were triggered by the scale, she could have had the same accountability without using the scale had she used the ‘tight jeans’ method.
That is, putting on a pair of tight jeans weekly to see if there’s any change in the fit.
My point is, having SOME sort of accountability is very helpful to stay on top of a healthy weight.
And while your weight isn’t everything, it is important to maintain in order to keep other health markers in check.
So if the scale is upsetting for you – ditch it.
But don’t ditch some sort of accountability.
Putting on a pair of tight jeans weekly might just be enough for you to avoid unwanted weight gain.
And of course, I’m here to help you should you want more accountability.
Happy to chat what this looks like. Let’s talk.
