Benefits of Mobility Work During Menopause

Navigating menopause can be challenging, and if you’re working out, you may find that your body requires more rest between workouts. For me, this is where incorporating mobility work fits in. Mobility work offers significant benefits on it’s own or on top of your regular workouts:

1. Improved Joint Health
Regular mobility exercises enhance joint flexibility and reduce stiffness, which can be especially beneficial during menopause when hormonal changes may lead to joint discomfort. A study published in the Journal of Rheumatology found that exercises focused on increasing mobility can significantly improve joint function.

2. Enhanced Mood and Mental Well-being
Engaging in mobility work can boost endorphin levels, leading to improved mood and reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression. Research in the Menopause journal highlights that physical activity, including mobility exercises, can enhance mood and cognitive function in menopausal women.

3. Increased Bone Density
Weight-bearing mobility exercises can help maintain or improve bone density, which tends to decrease during menopause. According to a study in Osteoporosis International, regular physical activity is crucial in preventing bone loss and reducing the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

4. Better Balance and Coordination
Mobility work can improve balance and coordination, reducing the risk of falls, which is particularly important as we age. A study from the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine found that balance training significantly decreases fall risk in older adults, including those experiencing menopause.

Are you including any mobility work? It can be a great way to get your body moving, even if ‘working out’ isn’t part of your regular routine.
