Being in a calorie deficit DOES work for fat loss. The point of this video is to highlight one of the MANY ways it might APPEAR that you’re in a calorie deficit when in fact you might NOT be:
Food labels can have faulty math which makes it a challenge…
Here’s the example in the video…
Chocolate chip Kodiak cakes
calories 110
fat 2 (2×9 =18 calories)
carbs 17 (17×4=68 calories)
protein 8g (8×4=32 calories)
18f+68c+32p=118 calories NOT 110
Off by 8 calories per serving
Buttermilk Kodiak cakes
calories 110
fat 1 (1×9 =9 calories)
carbs 18 (18×4=72 calories)
protein 8g (8×4=32calories)
9f+72c+32p=113 calories NOT 110
Off by 3 calories per serving
These food labeling inaccuracies are MINOR errors, but multiply these small errors by ALL the foods you log, along with:
Other food tracking errors
Mis-measuring
Not remembering what you ate
All this can make it very difficult to determine what your intake actually is.
The solution?
More care in label reading AND using other means to determine if you’re in a calorie deficit.
This is a skill I work on extensively with my clients. If you’re curious about these skills, let’s talk
