‘Age is just a number’, right?
Who are you kidding?
Age IS a number & the bigger it gets, the harder things are.
But just because things are harder, does not mean they are impossible.
And the alternative: declining muscle, loss of bone density and functionality, metabolic disorders – these things are much harder then the effort it takes to stay healthy
So, age IS a number, just not one you can use to justify giving up on yourself.
If you feel your health slipping as time goes on, I can help, let’s talk here.
As for me, I’ve learned that sometimes I need to moderate activity.
This past weekend we did major home flooring renovations, so I chose to focus on that work instead of weight training. I didn’t have the energy to do both. The reno literally kicked my butt. My 27 year old son worked all day with me and left my house to go train. While I envied his energy, I knew that it wouldn’t be wise to do that.
A small break in training is better than to risk injury or illness (which generally happens when I get run down).
I must say that I’m really happy that in my 60’s I’m able to rip up carpet and tile, rip up sub floors, carry heavy things, move furniture, etc. I just know that pacing myself is the wise move when there’s more work to do…So while age may have zapped some energy, it’s provided me with a little wisdom.
PS. Curious about my post workout concoction? It’s OJ protein ice cream (message me for the recipe!).
