Want an easy trick to figure out if a food is high in fiber?
Marketers can be deceptive on food packaging so you can use this trick to determine the facts vs advertising.
This is called the ‘Fiber 10:1 Rule’:
The larger the difference, the better source of fibre
Here are the examples in the video:
Cornflakes:
carbs 25g (divide by 10 = 2.5)
fiber is 1g
1g is LESS than 2.5 – this is NOT a good fiber source
Special K:
carbs 36g (divide by 10 = 3.6)
fiber is 4g
3.6 is almost 4g – this is an OK fiber source
*Even tho it is labeled ‘high fiber’ and ‘whole grain’
Fiber One:
carbs 53g (divide by 10 = 5.3)
fiber is 27g
27g is MUCH MORE than 5.3 – this is an EXCELLENT fiver source
Here are some more examples:
You can use this trick with ALL carb sources, I’m using cereals as an example.
This will help you ‘spend’ your calories and money on more healthy choices!
So don’t be ‘afraid’ of carbs! Just follow the rule and you will ensure that you’re getting the fiber your body needs.
