Don’t let your feelings decide…
If you had to decide each day whether to do something hard, you may just put it off to later or ‘tomorrow’.
That’s why I get in the ice bath daily without thinking – I made a promise that I’d do it every day for a month. Each morning, because I’ve already ‘decided’ I’m doing the ice bath, I just need to follow through (because honestly, I’d never ‘feel’ like it).
My morning looks like this:
- wake up
- run tub for 12 min (water comes out at a cool 48F)
- get in tub for 3 minutes 15 seconds (I add 15 seconds in case I dillydally getting under the water)
- COFFEE – I’ve stacked the ‘unpleasant’ ice bath habit with the pleasant habit of morning coffee
- get on with the day
You see, I’m not ‘motivated’ to get in the ice bath or workout, or eat protein or, or or [insert healthy habit here].
ACTION comes first, motivation follows.
My best advice for ‘staying motivated’ is to PLAN or schedule in whatever habit you want to establish and just do whatever it is without thinking about it.
DON’T LET YOUR FEELINGS DECIDE.
If you need some help establishing healthy habits, I gotchu.
Accountability is key. In fact, I’m reporting my daily ice baths to my clients to ensure I do it. I have to practice what I preach, so on the day I REALLY don’t want to get in the ice bath, I do it anyways because I don’t want to disappoint them.
