Need another reason to resistance train in menopause?
When you exercise, your muscles contract making them more able to take up glucose from the blood stream.
This increases your body’s ability to use insulin effectively.
Why is this important?
Insulin controls the level of sugar (glucose) in your blood.
Problems arise when your body can’t use insulin properly which can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
So building (or maintaining) your muscles will:
- help you better control blood sugar levels
- make weight loss easier
- lower your risk of diabetes
Other activities like walking, yoga, pilates are great but they don’t compare to the benefits of strength training as it relates to insulin sensitivity.
