Fitness Goals Versus Physique Goals

⚠️WARNING ⚠️

✳️RANT✳️

I’ve become hyper-aware of SO many social postings or should I say ‘posings’ and it’s sort of irking me.

It bothers me because these posts can be discouraging to everyone that’s busting their butts, sweating it out, DOING fitness, instead of just ‘posing’.

After all, fitness is a VERB…

We DO fitness…
–> To improve health
–> To be strong and functional
–> For fun
–> And yes, to look great in our clothes (and out of them)…

Let’s face it, most of us are a work in progress.

We all have our trouble spots we see in the mirror but I would hope that we’re sweating like crazy for more than just aesthetic reasons.

Sure, I want a flat belly, but more importantly, I want a strong core so I can do toes to bar and maybe a muscle up. I want to be able to avoid a slip on ice in a winter-y parking lot.

I want toned legs because I want to be able to do heavy squats pain free to qualify for my next big event, but more importantly, I need strong legs to use the toilet unassisted as I get older.

I want to be FUNCTIONALLY FIT, not just look the part.

I don’t mean to be negative. I understand that it takes a lot of effort to look good with a spray tan in a bikini, but DON’T confuse this with fitness.

I’ve done physique shows in the past and the fact is, when I was in ‘contest’ shape, that is, the leanest I’ve ever been, I was also not very ‘functional’. My strength and endurance were low in my dehydrated but buffed up state.

I’ll never regret doing physique contests because I learned so much, but I want to make sure YOU know this:

✳️Being in contest shape is unrealistic and unsustainable

➡️DON’T BE CONFUSED WITH FITNESS AND HAVING THE PERFECT PHYSIQUE

I hope that you have a deep and meaningful reason WHY you want to be fit.

Sure, I want to ‘look’ fit but I want the FUNCTIONALITY that comes with being fit – let’s focus on that.

Let’s not get discouraged by comparison.

Kudos to the bikini clad ladies shaking their booty on social media.

But kudos to YOU shaking your booty in your hot n sweaty workout, (too busy to take a selfie).
