Trouble Spot? Don’t Eat This!

What are YOU covering up?

For most of us, summer is here and that means the possibility of wearing more revealing clothes like shorts or sleeveless shirts, or (GASP!) even a bathing suit.

How do you feel about that? Are you hoping for rain so that you can stay in long sleeves and pants?beach covered up in clothes

What makes you cringe when you look in the mirror?

Your tummy?

Your thighs?

What about your arms?

These are the big three that most women I talk to ‘complain’ about.

Well, complain NO MORE.

It’s time to DO SOMETHING

Now you may have heard that there’s no such thing as ‘trouble spot’ training and that you can’t take fat away from specific body parts.

I beg to differ…

Exercise stimulates the release of adrenaline. Adrenaline is what’s known as a “catecholamine” or a hormone that serves to stimulate lipolysis or fat burning in the body. High intensity exercise in particular is the ideal way to increase the release of catecholamine hormones and subsequently release fat from the cells.

Your goal is to INCREASE blood flow to your trouble spots so that you can increase catecholamine hormones directly to those areas.

The whole process is enhanced when your nutrition is in line. Combine the ‘right’ exercise paired with the ‘right’ eating and you’ll notice that your trouble spot areas decrease significantly.

Here are some foods that you need to AVOID:

Potato chips – These salty devils contain the perfect combination of ingredients to shuttle fat to YOUR worst trouble spot. Eating carbohydrates in combination with high fat is a recipe for fat storage!

Pina Colada’s – It’s not the little umbrella that packs on the fat, it’s the deadly combination of the sugar and the alcohol in this fruity drink. Alcohol is metabolized differently than proteins, carbohydrates and fats. When no other food is present, alcohol is absorbed immediately from the stomach. With the presence of other food, the process is slowed down. Once food and alcohol get to the small intestine, alcohol is processed first. Carbohydrates and fats are dealt with secondly and if there is no immediate need for this energy, it’s stored more readily as fat.

Chocolate covered raisins – Don’t convince yourself that the antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals like iron in the raisins are worth it for the fat you’ll gain in your trouble spot areas as a result of eating these sweet chocolate dipped morsels. High sugar content will spike insulin levels. You can never lose fat in the presence of insulin and elevated insulin leads to a host of other health issues.
