I Can Do Anything (so can you;)

Guess what? I can do anything (and so can you)…

I was once again thrown out of my comfort zone and relied on my ‘I can do anything’ attitude that helps me do challenging workouts and even do my own plumbing repairs.

I swear, pushing myself in the gym has amazing cross over potential to life.

Here’s the thing: I had a car to sell. It was my FJ cruiser. An awesome vehicle if you like a tank. At one point I hauled a lot of equipment around along with my slobbery dog and this truck was perfect for me.

(Even tho I could barely see out of the dash and God forbid I had to back it up 😉

With the passing of Desi dog and the fact that I only do indoor boot camps now, it was time to retire the FJ. I got it detailed and it sat in my garage awaiting a buyer.

Apparently you should start a vehicle every few days, who knew?

Yesterday, a buyer was coming in 20 minutes. The FJ was dead. I was in a bit of a panic.

I put on my cape and goggles and figured I best not get flustered. I recruited my daughter (who’s actually a princess on the weekends for birthday parties so she was dressed as Snow White). She helped me push the FJ out of the garage.  I found some jumper cables and managed to fire up it up.

(Now dudes, if you’re reading this, don’t be thinking this is nothing. I’ve never actually looked under the hood of a car before. And, look at the awesome lesson I taught my daughter about problem solving. She thought my watching You Tube videos under the sink to fix the faucet was strange, I was ready to do the same when jumping the truck, but figured it out on my own without blowing up the engines.)

I felt pretty good about getting my FJ going and managed to sell it that day. The fella that bought it was impressed with how well it had been taken care of. (I fessed up that I had to jump it and he understood that it was sitting for a few months. I’m honest to a fault and I didn’t want him to think I was trying to pull the wool over his eyes.)

Why am I telling you this? Well other than for you to say ‘Yay Shawna! You’re a super hero for starting your car!‘  (I need a lot of positive reinforcement ;).

The real reason is this…I could have panicked and called the guy and said the car wouldn’t start. I would have missed the sale. I would have missed out on

the chance to prove to myself that I really can do anything I put my mind too.

I’m just an ordinary scatter brained woman. Imagine what YOU can do if you put your mind to it?

Here’s one of my favorite ‘go to’ workouts that’s helped me with my ‘I can do anything’ attitude. It incorporates strength and cardio. I get so many questions from women that seem to think they need to do hours of cardio. I can’t stress how important it is to AVOID this. Don’t make this mistake.

Here’s an alternative to the ‘long slow cardio’ workout…

6 rounds of 45 seconds work and 15 seconds rest:

  • squats (add weight if you’d like)
  • push ups
  • burpees (or full body extensions)
  • pull ups (assisted pull ups, band pull ups, DB rows)
  • mountain climbers

Here’s the video:

It’s a challenge of course. As much of a challenge as you want to make it actually.

But remember that the physical challenges you put to yourself can have surprising outcomes. Like tackling home repairs, plumbing adventures and even car maintenance.

Who’da thunk that?
