I’m not what they call a ‘cardio junkie’.
I did so much steady state cardio when I was getting ready for bodybuilding shows back in the day (because in the ice age when I was completing that was ‘cutting edge’), that I can’t stand the idea of getting on a bike or treadmill for any amount of time, let alone 30 minutes to an hour.
So I can tell you I did the happy dance when research backed up my loathing of steady state cardio as being the least effective method of training for fat loss.
Don’t wait to start strength training and heaven forbid, don’t just ‘do cardio’ to lose weight. Too many people think that they should ‘lose weight’ first by ‘doing cardio’, then start strength training.
Wrong.
Do them both at the same time for best and fastest results. But don’t do your typical steady state cardio. This is a fast way to workout boredom, no results and finding your way back to the couch.
In fact, you can do both (lose weight and build strength) at the same time in a record time with my Endurance Power Builders.
Here’s an example:
Endurance Power Builder #3
Warm up – 2-3 min of dynamic stretches of all joints
Count down 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 of each exercise then go back up 4, 6, 8, 10 reps of each
Burpee Squat Combination:
It looks like this:
- 10 burpees, 10 squats
- 8 burpees, 8 squats
- 6 burpees, 6 squats
- 4 burpees, 4 squats
- 2 burpees, 2 squats
- 4 burpees, 4 squats
- 6 burpees, 6 squats
- 8 burpees, 8 squats
- 10 burpees, 10 squats
*Feel free to swap out YOUR favorite intense exercise instead of burpees.*
Cool down – 2-3 min of static (slow) stretches of all joints
Long slow boring cardio (where you read People Magazine on the treadmill) will literally get you no where.
Endurance Power Builders along with strength training will get you results in record time.
My suggestion is to do my pull up or push up program one day and then an endurance power builder on the day in between your strength training workouts. These power builders are intense, especially when paired with the pull up/push up program. You’ll likely need an entire day of rest one day a week to fully recover.
The good news is the Endurance Power Builders are a bonus with my Challenge Workout program.
Lose weight and get stronger all at once. Oh ya, nutrition is an important element to weight loss too…more on that on another day 😉
