The weather forecast is for blizzard conditions and severe cold in the southern hemisphere and heat wave conditions in the northern hemisphere.
The very strong temptation with weather extremes is that we put our health and fitness goals on hold, waiting for the “perfect” time.
I hear so many people saying “it’s too hard to exercise at night/in the morning” – or “I don’t have any motivation” – or “it’s too cold/hot/windy/wet/dry”.
Sorry to offend you, but when I hear those excuses I’m ACTUALLY hearing “blah, blah, blah I can’t be bothered”.
Suck it up buttercup! Those are excuses, they’re not reasons.
You can have excuses or you can have results – you cannot have both.
If you’re serious about getting and staying fit; managing your weight or losing body fat – then you have to be consistent. Motivation will fail you every time, habits are what count.
Guess what? Cold winters comes round EVERY year! Hot summers come round EVERY year! It’s not like it’s a surprise or anything. If you put your health and fitness on hold every year due to the weather, it doesn’t actually leave much time for improvement.
So toughen up – adjust for the weather conditions and just move. If it’s hot, get moving early in the day and keep your water bottle close. If it’s cold, put on an extra jacket and just do it, one foot in front of the other.
Let me say it again for extra emphasis:
You can have excuses or you can have results – you cannot have both.
