How to Make ‘Someday’ Happen Today

Are there things that you’d like to do but they just never happen?

Or maybe you’re so busy with ‘life’ that you continue like a hamster on a wheel just working, sleeping, eating, back to work, back to bed, more eating…on and on.

Maybe you can relate?

You see, time marches on and if you have some things you’ve always wanted to do and you continue on the hamster wheel day in and day out without doing anything out of the ordinary, then life will simply pass you by.

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve lived in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and I had never done some of the hikes around Lake Louise until recently. It’s literally in my back yard and something that I figured I should do ‘someday’ but it just never happened.

Until it did.

And then I kicked myself for not doing it sooner.

I had an amazing day with friends doing about 18 km around the most spectacular area I’ve ever seen.

It got me thinking….how do we even break out of the every day?

Here are four tips on how you can make ‘someday’ happen today…

Make a Bucket List

Outside of your every day routine, have you thought about what you’d really like to do? Are there goals you’d like to achieve? Changes you’d like to make that you’re waiting to make?

It’s time to do some big thinking to discover some of things you’ve been putting off. Maybe it’s adventure, travel, a hobby or visiting friends or relatives. Maybe it’s a health goal.

Whatever it is, it won’t happen if you don’t define it. Time is not waiting for you.

Get Support

Surround yourself with positive people, those that support your goals and aspirations.

A great place to start, especially if you’re not surrounded in your immediate area with supportive people, is to go here.

I’ve created this closed group on Facebook that I’d love for you to join called Healthy Secrets for Women 40+. This is an amazing group of women that are supporting, inspiring and motivating each other. It’s a safe spot to discuss our ‘messy’ lives, our health goals and more.

Don’t Reinvent the Wheel – Ask for Help

Is someone doing the very thing that you’d like to do or achieve? You can fast forward your success by learning from them. Ask for help.

Get a coach or mentor.

The difference between a support group and a mentor is that a support group with cheer you on but a mentor or coach will hold your feet to the fire with accountability so that you’ll actually achieve what you set out to achieve.

You need both. Here’s how I can help.

Start Small

Give yourself some time to cross off the ‘big’ things on your list by starting with the small ones to build up your confidence. You’ll be surprised at how things get easier when you start small.

Don’t get too overwhelmed by taking on too much too soon. The good thing about starting small is that you can start TODAY – with something. Take some time to settle into what ever this ‘something’ is, then take on something else.

The ole tortoise and the hare story theme to mind – the tortoise makes small steps and over time, these changes will end up taking it to entirely new and exciting places.

It’s a long game and it all gets started by getting started!

As for me, I’m going to take some of my own advice. I need to get out to more of the hikes that I enjoyed in at Lake Louise!
